Oculus VR is an American virtual reality technology company founded by Palmer Luckey and Brendan Iribe. Their first product, still in development, is the Oculus Rift, ahead-mounted display for immersive virtual reality (VR). In March 2014, Facebook agreed to acquire Oculus VR for US$2 billion in cash and Facebook stock.
The Oculus Rift comes with both the headset, an external sensor, and – newly announced this morning – a wireless Xbox One controller and adapter.
Several pieces of the Rift headset are removable and replaceable as well. The "facial interface" is designed to accommodate users wearing glasses, and a built-in dial can be used to adjust the distance of the two lenses. The headphones are also removable and replaceable.
According to Oculus VR CEO, Brendan Iribe, the Oculus Rift incorporates a "constellation tracking system" that allows for precise, low-latency movement.
The Oculus Rift is coming Q1 2016. Several of the hardware and games announced during today's conference will also be at E3 next week, so stay tuned for our coverage then.
