What’s the problem with today’s horror movies? Well, they are NOT actually horror.
And what actually is scary hardly makes it to mainstream cinema. But
the truth is, buried under the pile of ‘supposedly horror movies’ are
some truly terror inflicting movies that are pure horror gold. Here we
have listed 10 lesser known horror movies so demonic that they will
never fade away from your memory.
This movie best portrays the sick entertainment fetishes of rich and
the poor people’s desperation to earn money. Two broke friends encounter
a rich couple who ask them to perform brutal acts of violence on each
other in order to get paid. The more gruesome the acts, the better the
money! The lengths to which the men can go hurting themselves and each
other for the money will make you sick.
Two obsessed YouTubers set out to see the world, live life to the
fullest and put the entire thing on YouTube. But not much into their
tour, one of them gets afflicted by a brutal disease and starts showing
signs of cannibalism and vampirism. What puts this movie ahead of other
cam-horror movies is the vehemence of the protagonists to continue to
film everything along with battling the supernatural disease.
Nobody actually paid attention to the sequels of ‘The Exorcist’.
While the second installment was pretty run-of-the-mill, ‘The Exorcist
3’ was an unnoticed masterpiece. In simple words, the movie is an
intelligent, non-ironic and if rightly said a true sequel to the first
movie. So if you are starting off with your ‘really terrifying movie
marathon’ we strongly recommend you this.
Revenge is one hell of a drug and ‘Big Bad Wolves’ is an absolute
overdose of just that. A kidnapped girl’s father together with a
disgraced police officer kidnap a suspect and torture him beyond limits.
The torture is so nauseating and brutal that you will surprisingly find
yourself sympathizing with the perpetrator and start questioning the
girl’s dad’s motives.
“The price of fame” is a famous saying but ‘Starry Eyes’ takes it to a
whole another twisted and gory level. Out of serious desperation to
break into Hollywood, a girl scores a role in a mysterious film which
pushes her beyond human limits. Her body starts to inhumanly deteriorate
and her body starts to transform into something terrifying. There’s a
shower scene in which will haunt you for days.
It’s surprising why ‘Oculus’ never got its fair share of popularity.
The movie is impeccably directed, follows a compelling story line and
actors have performed brilliantly. Despite everything going for it,
Oculus never got to receive deserved applauds. To exonerate her brother
from the murder charges of their parents, a girl tries to prove that it
was actually a demonic mirror that insinuated the murders.
What starts as a rather mellow looking medical documentary turns into
something so terrifying that it can potentially give you sleepless
nights. As part of her thesis on Alzheimer, a college student with a
crew decides to make a documentary on Deborah Logan who is in her
critical stage of the disease. Soon, a series of frightening paranormal
acts makes the crew realize that something worse than Alzheimer is at
play with Deborah and it surely is demonic. Right from spine chilling
thrills to an unexpected horrifying climax, this movie won’t fail at
giving you nightmares.
Some might not call it a horror exclusive but simply put, this movie
is drastically terrifying. An ailing girl visits a house in her dreams
that she had drawn on a paper and makes friends with a little boy which
she had also drawn as the inhabitant. As the girl gets sicker, her dream
visits to the house become more and more sinister. The movie brings
together great acting talent, intensely terrifying scenes and immensely spine chilling story. And yes, the climax where the girl actually faces the demon will stick to your sub-consciousness forever.
‘Jacob’s Ladder’ is one such horror master piece that if rightly
judged, it supersedes ‘The Exorcist’ by all means. Be it the editing,
the cinematography or the acting, this movie is a visual master piece of
horror and conspiracy. Sadly though, it never actually made out of the
art house circles. A Vietnam War vet who has lost his young son and wife
is suffering from a severe case of delusion and tries to keep his
sanity. But his condition worsens as the flashbacks of his dead son and
wife and his war time starts to haunt him more than ever.
Not often comes out a horror movie that grips you in unexplainable
terror. A movie so well knit that it seems to bring to life all that you
fear subconsciously. ‘The Babadook’ is just that. The movie binds
together the desperation, depression and loneliness of a single mother
and creates an atmosphere so terrible that it’s hard to put in words.
What starts from a horror story book goes on to ruin the life of a lady and her little son.
